The Partisan’s Bag

The Partisan’s Bag

Written and directed by Marco Ghelardi
Music by A Brigà

Born of deep reflection on the narrative of historical events and in particular on the divergent memory of World War 2 in Italy, “La Valigia del Parigiano” (“The Partisan’s Bag”), which is an oxymoron (the partisans had no luggage!) ), tells of the resistance in the only way that still makes sense: a series of events, both personal and unsettling, which reconstructs the immediacy and humanity of an event which is still at the core of the world in which we live.

The main character of the pièce is a female partisan: not a dispatch rider, but a soldier, like the others. The night before joining the troop in the mountains, Agata had to decide what to put inside her suitcase. From real objects to metaphors and to the stories that the last ones hold: a collage of real-life events which occurred in various parts of Italy, a summary of the war experience of an entire generation.
